Banyumala Waterfall: A Must-Visit Hidden Gem in North Bali
If you are staying in Munduk or planning to explore the beautiful northern part of Bali, there is one place I would highly recommend adding to your itinerary: Banyumala Twin Waterfalls.
Honestly, I would say that your visit to Munduk would not feel quite complete without stopping at this beautiful waterfall.
Tucked away in the lush green highlands of Wanagiri, Banyumala Waterfall offers a refreshing escape into nature. Surrounded by tropical greenery, moss-covered rocks, and the peaceful sounds of flowing water, this is one of those places where you can simply slow down, enjoy the surroundings, and appreciate the natural beauty of Bali.
What Makes Banyumala Waterfall Special?
Unlike some waterfalls in Bali that feature one large stream of water, Banyumala is famous for its twin waterfalls, where water flows gracefully down a beautiful green cliff into a natural pool below.
What makes this place even more special is its peaceful atmosphere. The surrounding forest creates a beautiful natural setting, making it a wonderful spot for photography, relaxation, or simply enjoying a little time away from the busy tourist areas.
One of my favourite things about Banyumala is that you can actually swim in the natural pool beneath the waterfall. The water is fresh, clear, and wonderfully refreshing. It can be quite cold, especially because Banyumala is located in Bali's cooler highland region, but that is also part of the experience!
If you enjoy nature and beautiful waterfalls, I believe this is a place you will truly appreciate.
The Walk Down to the Waterfall
Getting to Banyumala Waterfall requires a little effort, but the experience is absolutely worth it.
From the entrance area, you will follow a walking path with concrete steps leading down through the greenery. The walk usually takes around 10–15 minutes, depending on your pace.
Some sections can be quite steep and slippery, particularly after rainfall, so I recommend wearing comfortable shoes or sandals with a good grip.
The walk back up can be a little challenging, especially after spending time swimming, but take your time and enjoy the beautiful surroundings along the way.
Entrance Fee to Banyumala Waterfall
The entrance fee for international visitors is approximately IDR 50,000 per person.
Please prepare some cash, as ticket payments are generally made directly at the entrance. Parking fees may also apply separately.
Please note that entrance fees and local regulations may change, so it is always a good idea to reconfirm the latest rates before your visit.
Best Time to Visit Banyumala Waterfall
I recommend visiting in the morning when the atmosphere is generally quieter and you have more time to enjoy the waterfall.
The rainy season can make the waterfall look more powerful and impressive, while the dry season often offers better walking conditions.
However, always pay attention to the weather. After heavy rainfall, the walking path can become slippery, and swimming conditions may not always be suitable.
Where Is Banyumala Waterfall Located?
Banyumala Twin Waterfalls is located in Wanagiri Village, Sukasada, Buleleng Regency, in the northern highlands of Bali.
It is conveniently located between the Munduk and Bedugul areas, making it an excellent stop if you are exploring North Bali.
You can also combine your visit with several nearby attractions, such as:
-
Wanagiri Twin Lakes Viewpoint – Enjoy beautiful panoramic views of Lake Buyan and Lake Tamblingan.
-
Handara Gate – A famous Balinese split gate surrounded by beautiful green scenery.
-
Ulun Danu Beratan Temple – One of Bali's most iconic temples, beautifully situated beside Lake Beratan.
My Recommendation from Fun Bali Holiday
If you are planning to stay in Munduk, I would definitely recommend setting aside some time to visit Banyumala Waterfall.
Munduk is already a beautiful destination, with its cool mountain air, coffee plantations, green hills, and peaceful atmosphere. Adding Banyumala to your journey will make your experience even more memorable.
And if you are travelling from Ubud, Canggu, or Seminyak, you can also include Banyumala as part of a North Bali day trip, together with the beautiful lakes and other attractions around Bedugul.
At Fun Bali Holiday, we always believe that exploring Bali should be about more than just visiting famous places. It is also about enjoying the journey, discovering beautiful corners of the island, and creating meaningful memories along the way.
So, if you happen to be in Munduk or passing through the northern part of Bali, don't miss Banyumala Waterfall. Trust me, it is well worth the visit!
